A Distant Merlin

And my (very good) excuse for such a brief post this morning.

1/4000, f/6.3, ISO 640, Canon 7D Mark II, Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM + EF 1.4 III Extender, not baited, set up or called in

I don’t have many opportunities to photograph Merlins so ten days ago at Bear River MBR I snapped off a few shots of this one at Bear River MBR even though ‘he’ was far away. I was hoping he would lift off so he would fill just a little more of the frame and provide me with a more dynamic photo but he seemed content where he was. I still like the shot for its peaceful ambience, warm morning light, layered background and mostly natural setting. Aficionados of the refuge will likely recognize the weathered old post as a favorite raptor perch, Bald Eagles in particular.

My daughter Shannon arrived last night for a brief visit so this post is a short one. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen her and our visits have been far too few since her accident six years ago so I have other priorities right now.

Not many things take priority over my blog posts but Shannon is one of them.

  1. I hope Shannon’s visit is still on-going! Any chance she has been snowed in? The photo of the merlin is wonderful and so very peaceful. Relaxing to lose myself in it.

  2. Stay off the computer and have fun with Shannon! The Great and Powerful Oz has spoken. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Seriously, though, I hope you have a fabulous visit — please give her our best wishes from your little online family. โค๏ธ

  8. No matter how far away you have to try for these guys and gals whenever you see them. I am lucky to see one maybe every other year. One year though one was visiting and I got him at four different lakes here. They are all close to each other and darn if he did not show up at all of them. And he was the only Merlin seen that year.

  9. Shannon’s visit has to be your best Christmas gift, always !

  10. Everything is soft in this photo and that makes it a nice and relaxing scene.
Your daughter takes precedence, as it should. Seasonโ€™s greetings to all.

    Take Care,
    Kaye
