Usually when I have a marmot in my viewfinder it just turns into a staring match without many interesting poses from the rodent. But this guy was a show off.
It’s often a fool’s errand to assign motivation to unexplained bird behaviors so in this case I won’t make any claims. But I have to wonder if this young owl might have been experimenting with its eyesight.
My trip to the “white world” of Box Elder County two days ago produced close encounters with several species including a small covey of Gray Partridges.
Yesterday morning I had to drive about 100 miles north before I escaped the foggy, smoggy mess in the valleys that we call air during these extended inversions. This beautiful hawk was one of my rewards.
