Ruby-crowned Kinglet

A female, I think.

I rarely get such an intimate look at a kinglet.

Plus a cute and hungry muskrat thrown in for good measure.

One of my most difficult subjects.

I’m pleased anytime I can get decent photos of these secretive little dynamos.

One of my favorite photos of this tiny and frenetic dynamo.

And we can even see part of that elusive ruby crown.

Rousing is a behavior I’d never before photographed in either kinglet species.

Knowing their habits and quickness I didn’t think a kinglet in flight without a cluttered background would ever happen for me.

And this guy’s even showing off some of his ruby crown.

I’ve never before seen anywhere near so many Ruby-crowned Kinglets in the same area at the same time.

Ruby-crowned Kinglets are one of our tiniest songbirds. And most frenetic.
