On a recent post I said that I seldom stop to photograph buteos on utility poles but yesterday morning I made an exception for a young Ferruginous Hawk. A dramatic, spinning takeoff made me glad I did. (5 images)
I believe this shot from three days ago will become one of my favorite photos of the species.
Yesterday I posted a single photo out of a series of photos I took of an immature Ferruginous Hawk two days ago in the west desert. In that post I said I’d be posting more of them very soon. These are those photos.
Confusing to me anyway but then I’m often confused when it comes to molt and color variation in birds.
The potential was there but except for some interesting behavior near the end I might as well have stayed home.
A short trip for a young warbler. A meaningless journey to us perhaps but apparently it was significant for the bird.
Over the years I’ve spent countless hours watching kingfishers through my lens but until a few days ago I’d never seen this.
