Yup, that’s what I said.
I took this shot nine years ago and never opened the image until last night (I’m probably going to catch hell from readers for that…). It had three surprises waiting for me when I finally saw it full screen.
If I remember correctly, and I believe I do, what this bird was really coming in for was a fight.
To say I was excited to get this two shot series is an understatement. A later event took the shine off of one of the images for me but at the time I didn’t know what the future would bring.
At first glance veteran readers of Feathered Photography may think you’ve seen these images before. Believe me, you haven’t.
Sometimes it pays to answer your phone, even when it awakens you from a much-needed nap.
Almost five years ago I published a post entitled “A Guide To Aging Bald Eagles”. With over 71,000 views to date that post has been my most popular ever so I decided it was overdue for an update and enhancements. For this version I’ve added three images and made other improvements.
My original intention today was to post an image of a glorious adult Bald Eagle in flight in celebration of Independence Day. It didn’t happen…
One of the reasons I like this image is because the eagle’s white head and the light fish are highlighted so well against the dark wing.
Most Farmington Bald Eagles are nervous and shy but this subadult didn’t get the message.
For some reason I don’t see, or at least notice, the alulae (bastard wings) on eagles very often.
Differing crops of similar photos can have a major impact on the “feel” of the images.
This morning I felt like reminiscing a little about the old days at Farmington Bay and the Bald Eagles there in winter.
