Three days ago I posted a single photo of fighting Short-eared Owls as a ‘teaser’ because, due to post-surgical discomfort, I couldn’t sit at my computer for long enough to process all of the fighting photos I intended to. Today I finish telling the story. (14 photos)
Eight days ago I had an absolute blast photographing fighting Short-eared Owls.
All fighting birds are difficult to photograph well but fighting Snowy Egrets are harder than most.
I didn’t find any raptors to speak of yesterday at Farmington Bay but I did find some highly agitated Snowy Egrets. This is one of them.
I finally found some birds yesterday, with a few White-lined Sphinx Moths thrown in for good measure.
Loggerhead Shrikes used to be abundant on the island and man were they ever fun to photograph.
I’ve never been more intimidated in the field with a camera in my hand than I was at this moment.
One of these combatants could give any human prize fighter a lesson on how to land back-to-back haymakers.
