There’s more negative fallout caused by baiting raptors than many are aware of and some of it affects our fellow photographers who don’t bait and never have. I’ve been stewing about this for a while now so I finally had to get it off my chest.
Decent harrier photos are hard for me to come by this time of year so yesterday at Farmington Bay WMA I was pleasantly surprised when this one flew in fairly close.
The golds of fall come in many tones and shapes, just like the birds I often find surrounded by them.
I rarely get photos that actually show these red shafts because they usually can’t be seen when the bird is perched and I seldom get photos of flickers in flight.
This is the only time I’ve ever been able to capture a series of photos of a Barn Owl during the landing process.
There’s no common theme here other than both birds being hawks so I guess this post is a mini-potpourri but I always think it’s interesting to compare raptor species.
Light doesn’t get much warmer than this (but I don’t always like warm light on birds).
My original intention today was to post an image of a glorious adult Bald Eagle in flight in celebration of Independence Day. It didn’t happen…
Getting this shot was nothing more than dumb luck – especially considering my “buck fever” at the time.
One of the reasons I like this image is because the eagle’s white head and the light fish are highlighted so well against the dark wing.
