This year I’ve spent more time photographing yard birds than I have in past years. I’m enjoying it and I’m just now realizing what I’ve been missing. (8 photos)
Nine days ago I spent some time photographing some of our most abundant (for those readers who don’t like the word “common” applied to birds) songbirds at my favorite greasewood bush.
Critters use sunflowers for a variety of reasons. They don’t have to be in bloom to be useful to birds and wildlife but when they are they sure brighten up some of my photos. When they aren’t they allow me to photograph feeding behavior like I did yesterday.
For some reason I seldom see and rarely photograph juvenile American Goldfinches. Until recently I didn’t realize how striking and distinctive their wing patterns and colors are and how different they are from the adults.
