In the western US common mullein is often referred to as “cowboy toilet paper” but chickadees use it for food. These two youngsters may have been siblings but that doesn’t mean they had to be friendly over their breakfast.
For some reason I seldom see and rarely photograph juvenile American Goldfinches. Until recently I didn’t realize how striking and distinctive their wing patterns and colors are and how different they are from the adults.
Out of the many thousands of Yellow Warbler photos I’ve taken this summer this one from yesterday morning will likely turn out to be my favorite. But the reason for that strong preference will require an explanation because it’s personal.
