Raptors in particular are known for repeatedly using the same perch, sometimes over a period of years. And sometimes they’re used by more than one raptor species so it behooves the bird photographer to check them out regularly. If raptors like’m, I like’m – even when they’re less than photogenic.
In the past I’ve discussed the many reasons why I prefer to photograph birds of any species in the few hours after sunrise so I won’t repeat myself here. But yesterday morning I was reminded of yet another reason that applies specifically to owls.
Short-eared Owls have been unusually difficult for me to come by this year so yesterday morning I was happy to catch this presumed male in flight with prey (a vole).
