Chukar Served With Black Mustard

Some folks wonder why I don’t photograph flowers.  Well, I do.  When they’re in the background or setting of something with feathers!

Last week I was able to get so close to this Chukar that I had to quickly grab one of my other cameras with a shorter lens attached.  I liked the setting of black mustard (named for the color of its seeds).

The only problem was that some of the these long-stemmed and bright flowers were leaning over the rock and the wind kept blowing them in front of the bird so I had to try to time my shots when I had a good head turn from the Chukar at the same time as there were as few flowers as possible between me and the bird.  This was my best result, with only one out of focus flower just above and in front of the right leg.

Note:  I’ll be out of town for a few days this week with no computer access and a limited and unreliable cell phone signal so I’ll likely get any comments you may leave (via email) but I won’t be able to respond to them until I return.

Great detail and background. Love your photos!

  2. Great pic! The detail of the feathers is amazing.

  3. Beautiful shot (even though the flowers are blurry…) :-))

  4. The chukar is a stunning bird – and I love its mask (reminds me of the Beagle Brothers), its plumage and the colour on its legs. The mustard is pleasant as well, but the bird is the star.

Beautiful! Yellow of wild mustard makes a nice, soft background for the bolder colors of the bird. “Why don’t you photograph flowers”? You photograph flowers all the time…and your flowers fly!

  6. Love the subtle blue feathers on the wing! Beautiful bird! Another great shot Ron! Clever title!
