Just A Shot That I Like… #11, Bald Eagle In A Dramatic Flight Posture

It’s getting to be that time of year again – Bald Eagle time in Utah!  As is typical for this season their numbers in the state are increasing every day.  Eagle populations in Utah peak in January and February before many of them start heading north again.

Though it appears as if this bird was about to snag a fish from the water surface in reality it was simply coming in for a landing on the shore, just out of frame to the lower right.  I like the light on the eagle and the overall flight posture.

I’m looking forward to freezing my butt off again this winter while photographing these very impressive birds.

  3. Too stinking cool, wonderful timing and excellent shot Ron, a pleasure to view.

  4. That IS good news Chuck!

  5. Very nice capture Ron, and very dramatic posture indeed. You might be interested to know that the Bald Eagle population has been making a rather impressive comeback here in the Northeast, and on New Year’s Day a MASSBIRD post described an adult Bald Eagle in the town of Uxbridge, MA, my neighboring town. Unfortunately we don’t have the numbers you see, but to know they are rebounding here is encouraging!

  6. Thank you Deb, Tana and Elephant’s Child for your kind comments. This image is one of my favorites and I’m delighted to know that you like it too.

  7. I can’t imagine why you added this to the ‘just a shot I like list’. There is nothing just about it. Truly amazing. And well worth your frozen butt. I would happily freeze mine, but you have made that unnecessary. Sorry, all facetiousness aside that is a beautiful capture. Thank you.

  8. I saw one today by Fish Lake, taking off from roadkill, it was fabulous! and your pic is supurb!

  9. WOW! If I could take pics like that, I would have no qualms what-so-ever freezing my butt off either.
